Irish soda bread is a delicious, yeast-free bread that anyone can bake.
Even if you have never baked your own bread before (or if you’ve had some baking disasters in the past!), this is a great place to start.
- 270g all-purpose flour
- 20g sugar alternative, like Splenda
- 10g baking powder
- 5g baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 240ml reduced fat buttermilk
- 30g butter
- 5g carraway seeds (optional)
Preheat your oven to 175C or 350F. Line your loaf pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together your flour, sugar alternative, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut the butter into cubes and add to the milk. Combine until crumbly.
Sprinkle in the carraway seeds and add the buttermilk.
Kneed the dough into a ball and cut an X on the top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, until your Irish soda bread is golden and crispy on the outside
